Kids Stuff

I used to write a blog about making stuff with my kids. It was called Say Noodle. I also wrote other blogs and have a portfolio site. I just decided to put them all together. Rather than have three different sites to update. They’re all part of me. All the old Say Noodle stuff and any new kids stuff will now live under this category.

packing

This is just a quick post to say that things are going to be a little quiet around here over the next couple of weeks. Quiet you say… How quiet? Shhhhh…… That quiet.

We’ve decided to change up everything.
No really, seriously Everything!!!

I’ve quit my job, we’re selling our house and moving the family half way across the country. So time is currently at a premium and I really need to paint walls more than write here for the next little bit. It’s going to be AWESOME!!!! So awesome, but crazy hectic.

I will try and get at least one post a week done but my whole schedule thing is out the window for the next 6 weeks. That said, I will be doing a guest post over at Ginger Snap Crafts (I’ll Keep you posted on that one) which will be super cool but other than those posts, I’ll be packing boxes. Sorry:)

Please don’t unsubscribe.
Have fun!

So a couple of weeks back, I posted about prototyping some kid’s toys. The good lady wife and I are making some plushies that we plan to put on Etsy. I guess they’re sort of half pillow / half soft toy and they’re rad.

They’re based on some of the alphabet letters that I’ve illustrated over the past couple of years and when I say based, I mean we’ve made a couple of adjustments here and there that make them more practical to sew, which as it turns out is really hard work.

Anyway, stay tuned and see how they turn out! Because this is totally happening! So excited!

Download the colour orange sheet here, the third in our almost, sort of, getting kind of regular series of learning colours sheets. This one as you’ve probably worked out by now is orange.

This is not a post where I say, sorry I haven’t posted enough or I’ve been busy or this or that, because check it, I’m getting pretty consistent. This is a post where I say that I love writing here and have decided to step it up and commit to posting here at least three times a week.

Look, look! Look what we’re making!!!

I’ve been illustrating a set of alphabet cards in between projects for a while now and have only just realised that at least half of them would make really cool kid’s plushies.

Instagram December

A selection of images from instagram. Mostly drawings t-shirts and the like.
Despite the whole “We can sell your photos if we want to” thing that instagram worded rather poorly, I think I’m going to keep using the service. I mean really, who’s going to want to use my pics in their advertisements and what actual company would really want to do that without my consent anyway?

Anyway… back to the point.  The last couple of months have been pretty busy. I mean, we survived that Mayan apocalypse thing for a start and then the lead up to Christmas has been pretty manic. I’ve dipped in and out of instagram but the above are a just a few of our highlights.  We’ve had a Christmas vacation that included a trip to the Best park in Australia, a rad flyer handed out by some guy in town, A friends exhibition opening at the National Gallery Victoria and some Perler bead Super Mario craftiness.

As usual, you should totally check us out over at instagram.  Hope you had a great Christmas and have a safe and happy New Year.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree. Tra la la la la lala la

christmastree

We bought a real, fake Christmas tree this year. It’s just a small one but it’s actually a tree. For the last couple of years we’ve had an awesome two-dimensional, felt one that Jade made but this year, for this boys, we thought it might be time for a real tree.

The funny realisation after putting some tinsel and baubles on it is that it looked **really** over done, more drag queen than pine and we hardly put anything on it!

We decided to strip it back to basics and that’s where it got really cool. The boys and Jade started making the decorations, which look awesome and now we have a new tradition. How good is that?

We’ll make a bunch of decorations each year and when Christmas is over, we’ll keep the best ones and they can go in our Christmas box for next year. Great idea right?! I think so! Family Christmas tradition for the win!

Do you make your own ornaments?

Not houses, rockets!

Last weekend, the good lady wife pointed out this rad post over at Bella Dia. Not in time to make it in to the last post on Pinterest but in time enough for us to make some rad houses on Sunday morning.

Seriously, how good is coloured tape?!

Actually, what we made were rad rockets, but we borrowed the principle and technique from the blog above. It was super easy and well worth your checking out. Go have a look.
